  • 7980xe overclocked for rendering?

Hey everyone, I am replacing my main workstation with a 7980xe rig. I am buying it delidded and guaranteed 4.3 Ghz stable on all 18 cores. This is my first time overclocking, and was wondering if anyone else has any experience with OCing for rendering, and if it is even a good idea.

Thanks in advance for the insight!

as long as it's cooled properly you won't get any cpu speed throttling or instability

Are you prepared to deal with this? I'm asking because you say your buying it delidded and want to overclock, but you've never done any overclocking before. Maybe I'm being a pessimist, but I'm foreseeing cracked dies and TIM issues.

If you are in any way NOT an expert when it comes to assembly computers and overclocking, I would really advise not to go down this route.

Thanks for the advice. I got mine professionally delidded by SIlicon Lottery because I would be shaking with anxiety I were to do it myself haha. I'm totally comfortable assembling PCs though. This will be my 4th render node and my workstation was featured on Chaosgroups facebook page last year. This will be a 54-core workstation

How do you get 54 cores into one system?

Hey Manuel it's divided up into 4 systems and uses distributed rendering to have them work together.

Actually only using 3 now (48 cores). Girlfriend has her desk behind me and she was using an 8 year old laptop haha, so I gave her one of mine.

If I were to start all over again, i'd go with just 1 extra node and full out GPU rendering.

I see. I thought it was all in one system
Gpu is definitely the way to go though
