That's the roof you'll see on 95% of the houses.

I don't know RailClone well enough to build my own style. Simple roofs yes, but roofs where the pitch is different on each side of the roof isn't so easy.

If you were to create one roof style for the states it would be this, an asphalt roof. Sure, we are not the center, however, I am sure they sell a few copies of RailClone to the states.

If you have a script that does this in previous version of 3d max, why not just install that previous version of max with the script and use it to do what you need instead of creating this long hot mess of a thread?

I am not sure why you would see it as a hot mess of a thread. it is a need that I am sure many have. If I could find MAX 2009. I already went down that road.

I did this roof some time ago by selecting the roof planes, copy detaching them to connected polys, selecting the ridges and then extrude the edges the distance (while keeping height=0) I wanted. When deleting the lower polys you're just left with the ridge polys which you can displace after mapping them correctly. There is a bit of a rounding error (<1%) when you have falling/rising ridges but that should not be such a big problem.

I am not sure I understand, but I'll try.

I tried railclone several time, but each time there was an issue. I'll play around with yours, thank you!

I don’t even remember how I did this roof. It was a couple years ago, but however I did it, it was successful. I need to spend some time to get down some steps.

On Railclone, you can have the 2S array aligned to the boundary spline. This is for the tiles.
Then just pick out the relevant splines to use as the ridges etc and a RC linear array on them ?

I also hate doing ridges and don't have rail clone.
@tricks method could work but also I just was playing around with another method that's quite simple and works for any type.
You can either make a run of say 50 ridge tiles and attach them all, then use a path deform on a spline snapped to whatever ridge it is. Or equally fine is to use the spacing tool on that spline. Further refinement if necessary on a sub-object local level for one or simple local transforms for the other.

God I would hate to do this without railclone. The cost of RC is nothing compared to the frustration of having to do this manually.
