  • Best Trees

What are you guys finding to be the best trees? I use the same ones form Evermotion and even though they are usually the same, some get comments about how good they look and the same trees on other images get comments how they don't look very good. Most of the poor comments is all the leaves are the same color. Any libraries with good leaves, not all being the same?

I tend to mix a bunch of trees from different makers. CGaxis, Evermotion, Maxtree, Vizpark, etc. The close-up trees are usually Evermotion for the scanned trunks. I think the Maxtree ones use a vertexmap to randomise the colours somewhat.

On my list to upgrade/customize at some point and as trees can be pretty hit or miss.

Max trees, full stop. Having the grow FX file means we can endlessly change the seed#, animate for wind and adjust size shape.

I can honestly say that I have never been to their site What do you mean "full stop"?

I too use a ton of MaxTrees. If you have the GrowFX plugin you can buy the GrowFX versions of the trees and generate even more easily + add dynamics like wind which is a huge bonus. Speedtree is a third party package that also is extremely nice and can export trees, in fbx pointcache pc2's and decent Vray shaders. You can buy the speedtree model setups fairly easily.

I also use a ton of Forest Pack to scatter all this stuff because if you're adding tree's you're going to want grass and ground scatter.

evernmotion ones are ugly and don't have growfx files
(that said grow fx is a terribly outdated and not very nice to use, it was designed in 1982 and never got updated. support is poor, it took 3 years for the dude who develops it to understand looping needs to work for 25fps scenes)

That doesn't sound promising. It sounds like the XFrog tree guys.

I wouldnt say that Evermotion's are all bad. Volume 163 for instance are very realistic and hi-rez if you need closeups and better than Maxtree's in that regard.

                    I agree.

Another good source is this one ( https://polyget.com/product/complete...ge-collection/ ) - there are few models at the moment but they are of good quality and in growfx format

At this link instead ( https://www.nouvellemesure-lab.com ) - you can find good models but no grow fx version.

Another source is this one ( https://www.vizpark.com/product-tag/trees/ ) - these also have a growfx version.

As for the materials, unfortunately my advice is to double check them every time.
Even those of max tree for example that are generally well done but not all of the same quality, I prefer to make sure that my trees work in all light conditions.

I downloaded the GrowFX trial. I'll check it out.

Question: it's a bit hard to see, but it seems all subbranches are just "stuck" in the main branch, instead of a continuous mesh. Since there are GrowFX models, is it easy to change the trunk/branches to a continuous mesh?

Full stop means period (or bar none etc)

                          Laubwerk are pretty good imho.

Tree's are frustrating. We bought a bunch on sale from CgAxis and the materials are awful. I can only ever seem to find packs that include tree's you'd find in a park or forest! Where are the high quality public realm sculpted landscaping trees?

From my understanding is you buy GrowFX and make your own.
