When that happens I'll just stop paying them anything and just use my perpetual licence. That'll save me at least $1000 a year.

Once AD feels their profit slips, and their leaking cracks isn’t working for them, they’ll close that door in a jiffy.

Well they haven’t been doing that for 20+ years. In my experience they threaten the honest customers

Also, I don't get it why there such a huge price difference between different regions. 1 year 3dsmax rental in Europe is € 2.000,-......

They are in the business of making money, so they have it down to a science. What will the market bare? If we keep paying it they'll keep charging it. Persoannly, I think the software is way too expensive for what I use it for. For 40 years you could buy software and now we have to rent it. I am fine with Adobe and Microsoft, but Autodesk seems to place a lot of value on themselves. I understand their logic, but it doesn't benefit anyone but them. What happens when the car industry only allows rentals?

Agree, 3dsmax is way overpriced and is forced into rental while it's not designed as a SaaS product.
It's disappointing many business are solely run by metrics these days.

I guess I flip flop a lot on the price. I mean, I make a living with it, so I can't complain too much. However, everything Adobe has cost me $29 a month and Microsoft Office costs me $9 a month. 3DS MAX, however, costs me $140 a month.

They have learned the art of grabbing people from the balls; squeezing them from time to time just to remember you who is the boss. My plan was to get out of them but because of clients and consultants they still painfully squeezing me.

Just wait for autonomous driving cars, soon you will be only able to ride share and no one will own cars privately.

A bit OT: I think the car buying business has gone crazy today. I've been searching a new car for last three years to replace my six-year old Subaru. There isn't any interesting models on the market on any brand if I want am AWD plug in hybrid model. Here the car purchase tax is commonly around 10 000 Euros higher if it's not hybrid model, when talking about similar model.

Being an American? I resent that! . It's not only the price of the vehicle, but it is also the price of the insurance. We have two cars, both a few years old, with no accidents or tickets, and I pay $500 a month. Too me, that's ridiculous. Next is software insurance.
