imagine a layer group. instead of mask on that group use shallow knockout option on top level of this group. it will act like a mask but being a layer it can benefit from being a smart object for example.

Cryptomatte worked perfectly! GPU isn't supported, but that's okay. I'll try Pulze when I get a chance.

Great! I use Cryptomatte all the time now.
As for GPU it is supported with Bucket mode only.

Yes, VRAY 5 broke things and they are working on an update, but it might take awhile.

What a pitty. It really sucks when you have to rely on certain plugins for your workflow. Would love to see that cryptomatte gets more features.

I am sure they are working hard to get us something, but yes, I had to make changes to how I work.

I am pretty much good now, I have found other solutions. I guess it is the price a developer pays being slow to the market. I don't know, I am sure it took time to get things to work, but don't you work this stuff out in beta? It seems like they didn't try their plugin until VRAY 5 was already officially released. This breaks people's workflows, but having said that, I guess we don't have to upgrade the second something is released.

Could you tell your "other solutions"? I would also like to find an alternative. Because every max or vray update it seems to be the same with the cebas guys, and you need to wait pretty long for an update.
I tried the cryptomatte its very close to psd manager, but I'm missing the material ids and also parent layers when you using the layer masks.

I have been using cryptomatte. For my needs, it works great.

Last month I was asked if I would be willing to beta test and I said yes, but I have not heard back. The month is almost 1/2 over, so I am skeptical if we'll get something this month.

Got word today that they need a couple of weeks. Subscriptions will get the first round of installers.
