  • Max Indie renewal weidness

This morning I got an email saying my sub is about to expire and did I want to tun on auto-update. However if I do that then they'll charge me 1600.
When I checked further I discovered that I can also get another year of indie for 260.
Do they just hope that people won't realise and automatically hit auto-renew? A bit like 'trial' subscriptions when a company hopes you'll forget to cancel.....*sigh

In their defense....(uuurgh...) they did state that the auto-renewal would be for full price when they announced indie.

Yeah but the odd thing is that I can still buy another indie one...although I haven't completed the process and it may yet not go through. So I'll update if/if not.

It never said Indie was just a one year deal. I think it makes sense Autodesk doesn't automatically wants to renew though as it is under certain conditions.

I think I need to clarify what I meant by this post.

I got an email asking me to renew for 1600 quid but after looking at my account it was clear I can still buy an indie seat for only 260.

Plus my version now asks me every time I open it to turn auto-renew back on (it needed to be turned off initially in order to get the indie version iirc)
IF I had turned on auto-renew then it would have automatically calculated the cost as £1600 and not the indie price.

As I still have a month left I thought I would wait and then see whether the indie offer listed on my account was merely an error and that in fact it had ended the trial.
I have just now resubscribed for another year of this.

My point was that they should not really have tried to push a £1600 upgrade to something that I had access to for a fifth of the cost

It's a sneaky thing that's been commented about before - as you say if you leave auto renew on, your credit card is getting hit for the full whack. Some other clever person noticed that and posted it to cg press, when I bought indie the first thing I did was turn off auto renew. Great to hear that you've been able to buy in again for another year, I'll be doing the same when it comes due!
