You probably want a bit of both back in there for realism. The blue / white thing makes sense since it'll get tinted a little bit by either the warm sunlight or cold skylight. Even when you're shooting with your slr, you can only choose one colour to white balance to so you'll either make your shadows cooler or highlights warmer. One thing that aces does (and I think this is mimicking what film does?) is that as colours go towards pure white or brigther and burnt out, they'll gradually desaturate. You could replicate this in photoshop by putting on a hue / saturation layer and then either use masking or some of the layer blending options so it affects your highlights more than the rest of the image.

Isn't this correct though? The setbacks in the wall are presumably white so they would be bouncing a LOT of light back on to the adjacent siding making it even brighter. I think Joconnell is right in bring back a bit of the refelctions and speculars which should generally lighten all of the surfaces as they should be reflecting the brighter sky.

This is definitely where tone mapping will help a lot. If you rely on pure linear out of the box you'll run into these burnout issues, the default tone mapping in corona for example is set to gradually compress the highlights which is similar to how film and a lot of cameras do things.

Did you also try to lower the Burn Value inside the color mapping tab? Is it set to Reinhard btw?

Your whites don't suck. Your lighting does.

              It's a balancing act... Here's an example:

Haha! Plays here on chrome browser... but wouldn't play through any windows app... recorded with "GINJ" which is an open source thing to mimic "JING" which was discontinued a short while back at the dismay of many users...

Anyways, here's the scene from the video (sans hdri's) if it's helpful, Bobby
