  • poll: is this pre-rendered or realtime?

Gene Crucane gave this link to me to check out the "realtime" graphics of this game. And we started to wonder if this is infact realtime rendering?
    If it is...then I quit.
wtf are we trying to do here?
check it out and let me know.

Prerendered. Why...becuase I think the newest (3.0?) unreal engine is one of the TOP rendering engines out there and they dont look nearly this good. If this is a rendering engine, and not prerendered, it was on a mutli million dollar super computer.

    IMO

id be willing to bet its prerendered. There are some moments in the animation that go way beyond "scripted sequence." absolutely amazing work though. whether its in game OR prerendered, it makes me want to quit....lol

I guess then you'll have to hope your artistic talents are up to par instead of the technical.

                Prerendered.

But I am sure they used the in-game engine that will run on the PS3.

The smoke effects are chunky enough to look almost real time - but there are way too many going on at once onscreen. And like Percy said - too much animation.

You better believe it..... PS3 is more powerful than UR engine. UR is limited by your AGP graphics card.

Yes - vray - or whoever is first to make a rendering solution sync to 3ds max - will be king. Imagine having that power available for only $300-500 a box.... i expect ps3 will be fully network-able, and if they are smart it will have a media pc interface.

"Killzone 2 footage is prerendered or somehow doctored, but if it is all in-engine, and we have no reason to believe that it's not, then it's going to be hard to imagine a game coming along during E3 that's more visually impressive than this."

I may take my opinion back after seeing a new UT2007 video

                      http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748505/vids_1.html

the first jeep thing is a commercial, but watch the vids for unreal 2007 they are worth it.

doesnt UT engine support somekind of displacement?
                          not to mention hdri support.

Nowadys it´s really hard to say. But I would also say this is prerendered.
Also the new morrowind oblivion graophics are fantastic.. check out some screenshots, here
                              http://morrowind.com/art/obliv_screenshots_01.htm

Some weeks ago I visited a product presentation of a company called Lumo
Graphics. They offer Realtime Raytracing Solutions. And what I have seen there.. I still cannot really believe. Their solution is based on standard
nvidia or ati cards. If neccessary they can cluster their machines.
They can display 10mio polys raytraced in realtime on a single nvidia card.
The maximum they handled were 1 billion polys on a cluster of 10 machines
with 1 or 2 frames per second. They are just working on realtime
Global Illumination and they said they allready got quite far with that.
They had some diagrams that showed that the polycount has nearly no impact on the rendertimes (compared to shaders/effects)
when using raytracing instead of standard GL/DX display.
I really cannot believe that my graphic card is able to handle
such masses an my nonrealtime environment (3dsmax not a particular renderer) is unable to handle more than 3 mio ??...
I slowly start to understand why everyone wants to release standalone renderers.
Honestly.. is max in depth really such a bullshit ?
