the aliens dying was in the book, but the whole family surviving was the really lame part. plus the ending was rushed....
I did think the FX where pretty cool and I liked the intensity of the first 20 odd minutes. Got lame after that..

Two heads are better than one ...
....but some head is better than none.....
I saw Batman Returns a couple days before seeing WOTW today and I was surprised that I liked this even better than Batman. It was just super suspenseful and I haven't seen a movie that can do that for me in a long time! Of course there are obvious flaws in the story, but really who cares!
The original H.G. Wells story scared the daylights out of people in 1938 when it was aired on the radio because people actually thought it was true. Now 67 years later, in a totally different format, it still does a great job of keeping the audience excited the whole time, even when we know it's an old story and know that the aliens all die in the end.
I think it was a huge success, but hey, I guess that's what opinions are all about.
Maybe they did think about the bacteria, but didn't account for evolution. I mean even if they had made themselves immune to the bacteria that existed when they buried their tripods, they would still run into problems when encountering the multi-restistant bacteria we have created lately through our overuse of medication. Just my theory
this wouldmake a great commercial for Alegra Alergy Relief

i liked it for face value. I wish they get a little more into the the plots. Why did the aliens need the humans? Are the aliens planting humans on many planets and just harvesting us?

I'm not sure really but I have two ideas
1. The aliens don't need all of us (which is why they were vaporizing most people), they just need enough of us to power their machines (sorta like mr. fusion is "back to the future" which powered the car with trash) which are spraying some sort of "instant alien landscape"
2. The aliens are using us as mulch - they suck people into the machine, puree the body or something and spray it back out as nutrients for the ground which they are terraforming or something...
Either way, those aliens are devious little things...

Well I just got back from seeing War of the worlds.
Great CG!! obviously. Somewhat silly end...far too rush. The beginning of the movie was too slow and the end part too fast.
Geezus that girl gave me the shits.....the screaming GAH!!!
I must say I did enjoy it, mainly for the visuals I think. Certainly wasnt a waste of money.
I loved it,
Couple of things annoyed me,
Cruise's son at the hill (when Army did abig assault) when he wanted to leave his family, aghhh I was shouting at the screen, 'Just let the little prepubesent &*^% idiot go, he's a pain in the *^%%"
yes the Kids scream was annoying, she was even more annoying at the MTV movie awards.
The CG was poor when the girl was picked up by the tripod, she just went all blurry and she was picked up,
Also liked the way society was in anarachy, especially the dude breaking the windscreen (windshield) with his bare hands, that was disturbing in a cool way.
Should they have showed the Aliens or should they have left us guessing????????????????????
Loved the sound throughout the movie, especially as they were about the use the heat ray,
did anyone ever listen to the Geff Wayne's soundtrack which used Richard Burton as the VO? I think S'berg used Morgan Freeman, great and all as his voice is Burtons is better. (IMHO)
Yes the end was rushed and Cruise's ex wife's boyfriend should have been turned into puree
Cheers,
Tom
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.
If you go to a movie like this, you know that the main characters will always survive, so it didn't bother me. Only the fact that the whole house was completely intact and that they came out in their best clothes was a bit stupid.
It's also weird that all aliens died at approx the same time.
The aliens were pretty cool rendered, especially the small ones walking around.
