After many years of using IE, i thought i would give Opera a go ... and wow.. i dont think i could go back to IE after just 2 days of using Opera.

So I was just wondering what everyone's personal preference is and why?

i might eventually switch to opera...currently using firefox. Opera has a better feature-set ut doesnt seem as responsive here...i heard there´s lots of tweaking possible...but currently dont have the time to look into it...and am incredibly used to firefox and my theme and the addons i got installed to switch without some learning phase...

i've been using http://www.maxthon.com/ for ages. tabbed browsing ("pages" in opera) are the business.
i like the way it can open a new tab for searches, addresses, links etc. very highly customisable. :P

just downloaded opera for a go, not bad. i like the clean (read minimal) interface. i like the non reloading pages too
      - i can go 'back' to my newsgroup search results without refreshing.

ive just loaded on opera but havent as yet seen anything significant yet to warrent it being better. the speach pack was interesting but its really more of a gimmic i doubt i would use much. i guess i would need to surf some porn sites to see how it handles against some of the best cookies, spyware etc hehehe

Opera has been my browser of choice for over a year now.

Best thing since sliced bread. Dont forget to try out the mouse gestures... i hardly touch the keyboard anymore except to reply in forums or type webaddresses.

Pressing plussing PLUS and MINUS on the keypad zoom the page in.... not just increase the text size like other browsers, so if an image or text is too small or hard to see you can zoom in on it

Not to mention its a very quick browser.

            I highly recommend it.

firefox works great for me and it can import all IE settings.
i love the tabs...middle button opens a link in new tab, middle button on tab closes it etc.
opera is too cluttered for me and it messes up the layout of some pages.

Firefox seems to load faster. What I found strange about Opera is that it displays small fonts a bit strangely. Take a look at the small fonts at the footer of my site, in Opera they are hard to read. (If someone has a hint about this, please let me know)
I don't use ff all the time though, because there are lots of sites that don't work well if not using IE, most of the times menus. The Autodesk subscription site is one of them
The good thing about ff and opera is that they are more standards compliant than IE, so better to use when building a website.

i think its because the default text size in opera is smaller than in IE. If you use opera's zoom feature too zoom to a level where the text at the bottom of the page on your sites is the same size as in IE then they both look identical.

IM all about FF, the only issue I have is when I try to get certain Java scripts at work to run, or the side programs we use here, do not like FF. so I have to use IE. I am tempted to tryout Opera, maybe I will give that a try
                    Thanks

Never tried Opera... welll actually have... once... circa 1997 or so. I'm sure it changed since then. But have been all about FF these days. What like about FF is that is is simple, fast, and (it seems) safer.

For those of you that have used FF and moved to Opera, how do those features compare? Does Opera feature a good mail and calander? What about importing capabilities such as bookmarks and accounts?

Do you use css for the text size? If you use pixel value for your text, it should look the same in all browsers, independant of how large the text scale is set.

Nice new site btw Altough I find the top mug image a bit over compressed.

                          Mathew Everett:
Try it out, its really quite good

                          cpnichols:
Well opera doesnt have as many usermade plugins/scripts available for it that FF has. But alot of those plugins/scripts are already found in features of Opera.
I have never used the mail client but by the looks of it its pretty basic. (could be wrong tho)

                          Opera imports the following bookmarks:
                          Opera (obviously)
                          Netscape/Firefox
                          Internet Explorer
                          Konqueror

It can also import mail, contacts and settings from the following:
Previous versions of Opera (no suprise)
                          Eudora
                          Netscape 6/7
                          Outlook Express
                          generic mbox file
                          Thunderbird

                          Hope that helps
