  • sea surface

I need to create a sea surface, but don't want to use dreamscape (yet) Does anyone have a solution, preferably with rendered example?

    Thanks in advance.

          use noise then?

we use dreamscape (seascape) just to create geometry, then render in vray as usual

            Thanks Daforce,

definately worth looking into. Unfortunately the accompanying max files make max7 hang, could be due to an older file format. If you happen to find the other tutorial, please let me know.

Percy, it should be a medium rough sea surface, it is for a boat rendering, actually a large ship like this one.

If its simple, how about the Ocean shader in max with a mesh deformer???

                Gijs,

I resaved the files in max 7.1 for ya. Still seems to take awhile to load the sea motion one, cause of its mega mesh or something??? Just be patient, and then dont scrub the time slider.. heheh

Thanks Daforce, I noticed that they did load indeed, but are not workable.

to Galactus: Ocean shader Will check that out, thanks.

Colin, I can't find an ocean shader, is this standard/where can I find it?

anyhow, I managed to get a decent result using a plane with two noise modifiers (like described in the tutorial Daforce posted) with a turbulent noise map on top of it.

maybe he meant the darktree sea shader?

if thre is a boat and its animated you might want to look into realwave. i think someone said its now packaged with realflow. that will give you the motion, the spray and wake from the boat and it should also paint foam masks. then the texturing can be done in max

Thanks Daelf, I will check that out, it will depend on if I can find more assignments in that area if I can afford to spend money.
