Boxx it all the way
Nothing new to add only - go for a boxx if you can. We have two at work and I have one at home. After several bad experiences with other machines, I would definetly choose boxx again. Trying to build a 3D machine at another company will kill you unless you really know what you are doing. 3D hardware gets run unlike anything else. You need good support.

and from what i read on boxx's website, they test their systems in an oven (im serious)

My last machine was a boxx, my next machine will be a boxx. They produce quality equipment at good prices (better than Dell or HP) and they cater to the 3D industry. Last year at SIGGRAPH, Boxx had one of the larger booths on the expo floor, whereas Dell didn't have a presence at all. Thanks

asuming dollars are euro's (and in computerland dollars are euros unfortunately) take a look at this :
http://komplett.nl/k/config.asp?ConfigSystemId=10131
after selecting dual 270, 2GB ram and no monitor, the difference is 2800,- with the most important difference the graphics card. That's a lot of room for customer supportOr am I missing something here?
But if you guys want to spend and extra $1500 bucks to feel good it's fine with me

As far as I know the worst thing you can do to silicons is bake them in an ovenYou can contact StudioGijs for 3D visualization and 3D modeling related services and on-site training.

i dont mean they bake them. i just mean that they use it to test the chips cooling and to see how they perform under stress

hey guys
i d like to add my experience here as well
i ve had our farm ( 8 dual xeons racks ) built with boxes form these guys
http://www.cybernex.co.uk/
they have been really amazing in both suport and hardware
i know they do really good workstations as well with very good prices. they supply loads of the vfx companies here in the UK
we also got some workstations before we found these guys from armari
http://www.armari.com/
they as well have been very good and the equipment more than rock solid
and quite cheap compared to boxx or anything else.
both have next day response within the price(on site i think)

hmmm....
check this out:
http://www.boxxtech.com/products/cf_...dateTotal.y=16
almost $2400 for this X2 4200 system.
Right now I can pick a HP off the shelf, same configuration (well, similar) for $1100, oh, PLUS a 19" LCD monitor.
I still have hard time believing the BOXX can actually be worth $1000 + a 19" LCD more than a off the shelf HP (same RAM, CPU, DVD drive, HD)...
Anyways, just a thought.

because you call tech suport much less with a boxx than when you buy an HP

Support ,yes, but what is the definition of "build quality"?
If a custom system is based on brand name hardware what's the difference?
I just priced some systems from XI x2 4600+ and they came in well under the boxx 4200, their support is great, so it's hard to see the value of the boxx.
