Does anyone know if there's a parametric frame object out there? Basically looking for a box with the middle part empty.

mmm one way to do it. Still wondering if there is an adjustable frame object out there. Found the 'hollow cube' script....

Mmmm tube object works fine. Thanks! Damn 45 degree angles tho...

you want it as a box with both ends open or just one end open?

try the sweep modifier on a spline.
with a second spline you'll be able to drive the cross-section shape of the frame should the few available paramteric ones not staisfy you.
It allows for clean meshes as well, by joining crossing parts of the path.
Efficient and quick, imo.

That method = too much work.

just to stop the whining here's a small start :
http://www.instinct-vfx.de/temp/Frame.ms
Launch once and you'll have a new object category called "juju" wich
holds a new object called "Frame".
Just a quick mockup i did yesterday night...has a nasty bug that i just didnt get rid of and ran out of time :
Everything works during creation, but the length value isnt updated accordingly in the parameters, and if you touch it AFTER creation then it somehow fucks up the mesh....if anyone want's to look at it, you'd be welcome
to autoload it, just put it into scripts/startup

heheheheheh. Thanks Thorsten!
I wouldn't know where to begin modifying something like that. Writing scripts are foreign to me.

I will keep on the whining.
@ instinct
Can u please make it with 2 parameters 'bout the frame shell. Like:
1. framewidth
2. frameheight
So that in each direction you have different shell.
Thanks.

Does it have Cap top or Cap bottom too? And would beveled edges be asking too much?
I've been afraid to install it since you say it spits out errors.

There you go
http://www.instinct-vfx.de/temp/Frame1.1.ms
Also found the reason for the nasty bug...the creation is now a bit odd, as it
only works in ONE direction....so length always goes upward from creation point...but dont have time to script around that.
Different Framewidth and Framelength have been implemented...
have fun
