  • cg skin experience

Does anybody here on this highly skilled forum have any experience on CG character´s CG skin plugin? I have huge problems on how to get the shoulders good when rigging/skinning And been thinking of cg skin as an altenative where I can have skin sliding.

would be very thankful for your input on this.

Have you looked at paul neales dvd on this? Far as I remember you already had something with a stretch setup to deal with the skinning - was this the case?

I got good results with a setup like this:

I've never used cg skin admittedly and while it looks very good most creature setups I've seen are still using stretchy bones for most things...

Thanks for your reply. Yes. That's about what I got setup right now. Tried it simple like in your video, and with a lot more bones. and most of the time I think it works. But this character is moving his arm over his head, back and forth to the limits and I get so much bad deformation Its really hard to do something about it with skin morph. Especially sins it is a 3d joint. But I will make a last attempt using separate bones to trigger the skin morph and Skipp the 3d joint thing.
Any help on skin morph is appreciated

      regards

        Ah,

this thread would be interisting for me too. i also thought about cgskinn,

my setup also was comparable, but i had to fight with this arghhhhl.aaksdjfalsdfjaölsdj....... skinnmodifier of max.

it didnt work realy well. no good mirroring, not intuitiv. it just was much much work, and at last i had to use many skinmorphtargets..

        no way out.

There's thoughts being made about skin simulation using maxscript to slide muscle shapes under a skin mesh but you're talking about hundreds of calculations a second so it mightn't be any where near interactive.

Only thing I can think of helping is auto clavicle movement as well - the milk caveman was quite a bulky character and most of the time the animators didnt use his clavicle when raising his arm which caused bad crashing in the mesh - I reckon you're smarter than a lot of animators so you've probably done that though.

Any chance of posting a viewport capture?

jconnell. I post a frame grab or a small animation as soon as possible. Would be very helpful if you can look at it. About the clavicle. I don't have it set up as automatic, but animate the Bone manually. The cavemen are really impressing. did you have use a lot of skin morphs?

I think I solved it for now: together with skin wrap. I realy like that tool. My first time with it. I ,allso got rid of the chest muscle bones. I cant get that right. Now what I use is, a clavicle bone and the arms. Just like the avarage rig you see Maybe I buy the cg muscle just to try it out. I fried the demo when I installed it some time ago and wasn´t able to use it during the 30 day period; It crashed max at start up. when I found out it couldn´t coexist with the reactor plugins I only had a day left or something

              Thanks for the input!

this is the bugger i´m trying to skin
