  • DWG Link problem in Max 8

    Hi

I'll post this on the Max forum but thought I'd give it a go here first.

I've just upgraded to Max 8 SP3 and I'm having problems with DWG Link. It's basically dropping materials and modifiers on reload.
I think this is a known problem but was wondering if there is a workaround.

It's actually ok if elements are just moved but if copied and/or new object/layers added to the DWG fails on reload (mats and modifiers)
I've tried using different DWG versions, 2005 and 2002 but no luck.

    Anyone come up against this?
It's so annoying for me as DWG link is key in my workflow, I'm pretty screwed without it.

    Cheers,

    Richard

make sure you have *use scene material definitions and *use scene material assignments on Reload checked in the advanced tab of the file link manager

Think I've sussed it, I was creating the DWG as 2005.
DWG Link seems to work correctly if created as v14 or lower.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with my exporter (Microstation), probably is because if I edit the 2005 file as DWG (no export) it behaves correctly.
At least I have a workaround for now.

weird, the link manager works fine for all autocad and archicad created DWG files. Like you said there must be something wrong with microstatioins DWG export

It is odd, it works ok in Microstation's 'DWG workmode' (no translating, working directly on the DWG)
I was told that there is a known problem with DWG Link in Max 8. Now I'm not sure what the problem is - from Max's side.

I'm awaiting a response from support on this.
