i think teaching dolphines to make a proper peanut butter and jelly sandwitch is harder. and they say that dolphins are intelligent sheesh. my 4 year old nephew can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwitch
    lol

I have heard it said that dolphins are almost as smart as people. I wonder
why they cant get out of a tuna net.

      Hi,

I wanted to write a carpaint shader some time ago, but it came out that it's really better to use a shellac or now the new VRayBlendMaterial and layer the needed shaders. The result is the same and you have full control.
We are currently exploring the possibilities of measured brdf shaders and btf shaders. Following this idea: http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/onli...nce/index.html But this is a long way to go since we first want to construct our own measuring device....

      Best regards,

      Dieter

ok, how about we drop you into the ocean, and scoop you up in a tuna net and see how easy it is for you to get out ... let alone breath underwater...

Yeah... it's because shader writing is not for everyone, especially if you want to write physically accurate shaders - there are many theoretical restrictions that must be taken into consideration, so it's not just taking a surface normal and light direction, doing some random math and returning a color. You need to know what you are doing - this includes knowledge of e.g. the rendering equation, probability theory and numerical methods for computing integrals.

Anyways, like I said, with VRayBlendMtl you can do almost anything you need - especially car paint is very easy.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

<shrug> In that case, some shader examples (e.g. Blinn and Phong) are included with the SDK for the standalone version; if you email me I can get you that to take a look. Things work in pretty much same way for 3dsmax, only you don't get a V-Ray plugin in the end, but a 3sdmax material.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

well if you do learn it please teach them about nets and peanut butter and jelly sandwichs.

shame egz still hasnt come on here yet,. we could do with his shader being converted to a vray blend material

                  Thx Vlado! Pm sent.

Placing a big pool for dolphins now (but they're asking to make water kinda hot or they won't teach me further and they like beer)
