  • Brazil 2.0 "almost" out

Aside from the being buyable, and running, this one ticked me off a wee bit
    But hey, i'll shut up...

    http://forums.splutterfish.com/viewtopic.php?t=7002

Further down the post there's a vray comparison which is again done with the feet, and which is claimed to be "apples to apples" and guess what, vray is slower
    You be the judge

I don't have much energy to fight this again :P

But yes like you said "done with the feet" is a good way to put it, his biggest critique is the highlights that could be fixed with one simple checkbox.

The Brazil renders look flat and lifeless, reminds of the fast renders done with fR when 2 came out. Look at the recesses in the back, the vray ones have nice GI shadows, the brazil one is flat with no shading.

How can they think that is what the water filled recesses should look like? Last time I checked water did not block light like that, just fill up your sink and look...

Heh, and I won't even mention his "skills" in setting up caustics in V-Ray.

Good thing I can't remember my login there.

I am speechless...what a load of moo poo.

Maybe they should get ISMA to make up some benchmarks (maybe they already have)

In what way does the brazil render look more real...

its not a true test until the cornell box or teapot is used extensively by people who have too much time on their hands.

              ROFL!
This one made my morning mate!

In any case, i did follow it through.
It looks like a LOT of the stuff has been ripped straight off the vray ideas.
QMC sampler (go read the description of it. then come back and read Vlado's description of his own, written a year before. eerie.).
Displacement: hey same as us, minus subdivision.
It has irradiance caching!Oh, it works with photons.
And incidentally, one beta tester pulls up a vray BENCHMARK (read, done to crunch numbers, rather than be QUICK), compares it to an almost directly lit render that takes 2 minutes less, and goes "we smoke'em".
              Well, keep smoking.
              Hope you'll enjoy.

ok back on topic. Brazil 2 could be useful, or maybe it could have been useful about 2 years ago, but i think they have missed the boat.

                        viva la vray!

We are happy and feel secure with our renderer that there really is no need for us to start running comparisons n'stuff When the hell does Farcry Crysis come out, now there's a good rendering engine...
