this is the structure im working on, not entirely sure what to do with the corners, i know i need tiles on the corners but should i just use strips comming down. also with the displacement method the tiles dont have thickness. im using a flat surface. how can i get thickness

Hey dude. To get thickness what you might need to do is fake it.
Instead of using a tiled map like i imagine your doing. make one big texture map you can use to cover a whole side of the roof, then in PS have a couple pixel edge running alone the bottom that is abit darker, that will displace that part less and give the illusion of having thickness for the tiles

However if seen from below you will see that there is none. But from side and top it will look good.
You could go for a geometry option. A nice tile set has been posted in the general section.

i ve never used it my self, but i ve seen recently an interesting aproach...keep ur current displaced planes but replace the last row tiles by geometry ones...same ways with the joints...though i d just skip the joint ones and use a displaced smaller plane for those joints...
