    Xp all the way.

I am taking vista off my new Dell laptop because it is so bloated and memory hungry.

On my render nodes that have 2gb they get by just fine rendering my images. The dell with vista installed just chokes and say that it has run out of memory even before it starts rendering.

I hate vista now, I really gave it a chance, but I am done with it. Its just not pretty enough to put up with the stress.

    XP64 is the best choice.

My GF's new lappy has Vista on it. I might end up taking it off if it becomes a problem. Just not sure if the drivers will be available for it.

From memory, I think I had to turn off something called User Account Control to get Max to work on Vista.

It warns you that what you're doing is a bad idea and that the polar ice caps will melt if you continue but it makes Max work.

Using 3dsmax 9 with sp2 or extension 1rev3, helps. We had no need to set the "run as administrator". 3dsmax8 requires the "run as administrator" (set in the properties) or disabling the uac.
But after everything is running there are some problems in the file dialog, clicking in a file when saving and then change the name doesn't seem to work and he always assume the file we clicked (better try since my explanation isn't that good). Also when using the asset tracking and setting the paths we must add an extra "\" in the file dialog or max sets the path to the directory just one level below. I think max is only going to work perfectly with vista in max 10 (or may not).

                    Best regards,
