i see nothing really innovative in this list.... i was hoping for something better to see at my first and most likely last trip to siggraph.

another update another overall update of plugins bada bad politic of autodesk, everytime a new update of a plugin will work for the latest 3dsmax so again buy/update 3dsmax version and update bad bad and too expensive, i prefer lightwave/newtek politic more comptibility.
Anyway the autodesk thing about their customes as rich people that everytime follow their road....

Too fast updates and too litlle improvements in short times in my opinion
        mmmmm
excuse if I exposed my sad opinion on this market but is what came from my mind when I read the news of autodesk

        bye

Does anyone know if the sdk has changed? Are 9 plugins compatible? I wonder if they are on a major , minor, minor schedule like 6,7,8 were.

                did you see the videos?
they have realtime shadows in the viewport and something that looked like realtime sun/sky system.
                Reflect, repent and reboot.
                Order shall return.

hmm to bad we are missing sound. but realtime shadows are a nice addition. but hardly worth it as a "new release" thing if you ask me.
it's nice but not that an improvement. hope they realy have improved the max viewport. those highlights look okey!

if you ask me all those improvement are already in all other 3d main packages so i have the feeling they are one step behind
                      hehe but well

Any chance of retrocompatibility with older versions ? Or it is still too much work for their engineers ?

Knowing the history of Max, probably not. Everytime they add new features or rework stuff, it means changes to the scenefile format. So don't get your hopes up.

                                Modo tools in 2008

It seems as though they have borrowed a couple of modo tools for max 2008
That working pivot and select any sub-object and rounded chamfer are direct rip offs. The real time lights look cool but I don't think that together these minor changes are anything to write home about. There is still the matter of all the features that are broken in max. It makes me wonder would we have been better off if autodesk hadn't bought Maya - it seems as though in the long run they are going to merge the two apps and until then they are just going to milk the users with weak uneventful upgrades
