    ahh yes indeed.

    hahahah

They just masked it under "tough 64bit code opimisation" hahaha

In other words "we fixed up our sloppy code but didnt want to admit it"

Thats why it's important to use less plug ins as possible...

In reality, many plugins can be used by paying a bit of attention: anything that is used to change geometry can be "baked" for animation (rig/skinning stuff, etc.), particles can be turned into meshes, procedural objects can be collapsed, background generators and textures can be rendered to images and so on.
Of course, Atmospherics and simulators not lending themselves to baking will be more difficult to port over to the standalone, but it's not said that some way may be found by Vlado and Co. to support most of them, as they already do from within the Max SDK standards.
Afterburn, Fume, the standard max volume lights and effects all work with VRay, and quite quickly at that.
So, provided some of the informations are passed on to the standalone, others may be reconstructed later from within...

Well, I know that Aura works with the standalone version, if this is of any comfort Besides, many atmospherics effects can be composited afterwards.

            Best regards,

how is this standalone gonna work u think guys?
will it have its own uvw tools? or will the basic scene materials with texturing have to be made in max or any other package?
my idea of standalone is that one should be able to create all sorts of uvw types of mapping and all the texturing stuff within the app.....therefore one would just need to create geometry and some IDs elsewhere....

The standalone is just a renderer. Nothing else.. at the moment anyway.

It doesnt have a GUI AFAIK

'at the moment' ? there's one at the moment ?

Anyway, if it's really being developed, any hope that it would run on Linux? If it does, I can really kiss goodbye to Autodesk & M$!!

I seem to remember that being planned.

Doesnt it work by you making the scene, and then instead of rendering pretty much exporting the whole scene to a vray format the renderer can then read, no matter its platform?

Currently V-Ray standalone runs on Windows, Linux and OS X (Intel Mac only, working on PPC version). There was also a port for CentOS because someone needed it. Currently V-Ray standalone is included with the beta version of V-Ray for Maya.
