Crysis - is great, but for me in dx10 it lags everytime. Only dx9 helped me at very high settings (I manually turned on via console some things I though may be usefull - pom, godrays, tweaked hdr lighting etc ). But still runs on 15-35 fps (sometimes even higher smth like 45). And I won't play final version without AA, so waiting for a driver miracle. I can't play with medium textures either
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Well after much tinkering and benchmark I have some interesting results that might interest some of you.

So...the benchmarks., all on XP and only the 2nd loop was counted.

      CPU BENCHMARK

      Driver version: 163.75
      Crysis settings: High
      Resolution: 1920x1200
Play Time: 64.77s, Average FPS: 23.16
Min FPS: 14.99 at frame 1090, Max FPS: 30.37 at frame 365

      Driver Version: 169.01
      Crysis settings: High
      Resolution: 1920x1200
Play Time: 62.23s, Average FPS: 24.10
Min FPS: 13.79 at frame 196, Max FPS: 32.43 at frame 373

      Driver Version: 169.01
      Crysis settings: Very High
      Resolution: 1920x1200
Play Time: 95.77s, Average FPS: 15.66
Min FPS: 9.92 at frame 1088, Max FPS: 20.24 at frame 101

      Driver Version: 169.01
      Crysis settings: Very High
      Resolution: 1280x800
Play Time: 52.46s, Average FPS: 28.59
Min FPS: 20.79 at frame 1086, Max FPS: 35.64 at frame 371

      GPU BENCHMARK

      Driver version: 163.75
      Crysis settings: High
      Resolution: 1920x1200
Play Time: 80.95s, Average FPS: 24.71
Min FPS: 11.48 at frame 142, Max FPS: 28.33 at frame 65

      Driver Version: 169.01
      Crysis settings: High
      Resolution: 1920x1200
Play Time: 78.83s, Average FPS: 25.37
Min FPS: 11.78 at frame 142, Max FPS: 28.90 at frame 1009

      Driver Version: 169.01
      Crysis settings: Very High
      Resolution: 1920x1200
Play Time: 118.58s, Average FPS: 16.87
Min FPS: 10.87 at frame 137, Max FPS: 19.27 at frame 975

      Driver Version: 169.01
      Crysis settings: Very High
      Resolution: 1280x800
Play Time: 65.66s, Average FPS: 30.46
Min FPS: 11.66 at frame 141, Max FPS: 37.39 at frame 96

So in conculsion the new nvidia drivers do make a slight difference, in mostly a positive way.
Very High settings do look alot better, but your framerate suffers for it. But its still compeletely playable at 1280x800, and with a jot of AA it would look quite good as well.
With very high settings you take about a 35% performance hit on your framte rate on average. Still it does look pretty sweet

Also seems AA doesnt work in game. So I will assume it will need to be forced from the Nvidia control panel.. but that will have to be tested tomorrow.. CBF right now.. getting late.

Paul, i found the console to lack most commands, and some of them (godmode for one) are turned off as the game loads, even if i tweak the startup cfg to include them (and so does the cpu benchmark: the first run of ti saw the poor chap shoot a rocket onto a slab and die. while the exec file said godmode=1).
Any hints on what works and what doesn't?

What is the difference between the CPU and GPU benchmarks? Is it that the shader calc's are offloaded to the CPU in the CPU test? If so this is interesting in respect to the whole D9/D10 debate. It will be interesting to see how the #'s come out on a D10 card with respect to the CPU vs. GPU.

In the CPU test its basically a physics overload, blowing up a few buildsing with grenades and rockets.
In the GPU tests, its a fast flythru of the level.

Hrm... drool.. I can only hope that they port this to the 360, when they changed their tune, and said they might; depending on PC sales. Or I can just wait a few years for it to be in the bargain bin and play it on a "low end" video card.

Well, all the commands are available in console. You just have to turn developer console on (as in old farcry).
                con_restricted 0
And then do whatever you want
To tweak quality - look at the \Crysis SP Demo\Game\Config\CVarGroups
There you'll find a group of .cfg files. I wouldn't recommend to use mod, that maximizes ur graphics settings by just simply replacing some lines inside cfg files. Coz I think you should spend some time to manually adjust the visual appearance via console.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

well, there's a few tricks which come in handy
One is the speed mode energy consumption, set it to 0, and you're flying.
                      Same goes for the cloaking.

Basically, try each alphabet letter, and press tab, you'll get the commands spit out in the console, and will be able to go back and read them all through the use of the pageup key.

Will have to finish a current job i'm on atm, before going properly in depth, but i'll surely keep you posted.
That is, unless someone finds a guide on the net earlier.

                        Among the others
                        r_UsePom=1
                        e_terrain_ao=1
                        r_sunshafts=1

P.S. Here's my config files. Good thing to start - just changed all the values to very high. But from my experience you can't get much if you lower smth a bit. Of course on 8800 series

                          1600 console commands.
                          Right.
Don't expect me to pop up with something useful anytime soon...

a couple of pictures under xp/dx9.

aberration, godrays under water, caustics and refraction.

You may have seen this before, but here are godrays (volumetric shadows, in CG terms, or within a medium), and some vegetation to boot.

Nice one Lele. Would be interesting to see the difference in FPS between your setup and the preset very high one that was linked to earlier.
