  • MAX help... (urgent)

Forgive me being short, i'm in a rush and ive just managed to knock my mouse, erasing the entire post i had written before...

Say ive got a series of objects with a pivot point at the edge, movement locked, rotation in all but one axis locked. How would I then go about using either a map/mesh/deflector to get these to rotate?
Something like a wall of pivoting tiles making patterns in the wind. If it makes a difference, they all need to stay seperate objects and while not exactly heavy, theyre a far cry from a box.

I know this can be done, ive even done it myself ages ago... But I cant remember for the life of me how to it or what any of the tools used were called

Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe not eacxtly what you need (they're displaced and are one object) but Charley cam up with a nice solution for wind tiles...http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=19135
    www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

Here's a shot of the geometry I'm dealing with...

Something like throwing a noise modifier over the whole thing and have it only affect the rotation on one axis would be perfect... but you cant do that.

why not ? you can assign a float noise to one axis only. you might want to script that tho to get different seeds so they dont move all the same but with an offset.

looks exactly like what you need to me. add noise controller and tweak all axis 0 besides the one you need...

Well, I actually meant its not obvious and I cant figure it out, not that its not in there. 'I cant figure out how to do that' is what it shouldve said...

Thanks for the pointers, i'm having a dig around now
