While I agree with your last line and dont have an issue with what youre saying overall, this is such a ridiculous generalisation and couldnt be any more wrong. People are different.
How do you think technical directors ever get anything done/make progress? It's not by sitting around waiting for someone else to tell them what to do, its through constant innovation and never accepting that theres a perfect way to do something.

That's the definition of a technical director's job, is to find creative solutions to problems in production. Their job description requires them to stay on the cutting edge.

Look, I'm not trying to pick a fight and defend people like Ted by saying that everyone needs them. I'm sorry if you're offended by my generalization, but when talking about a group of people as diverse as 3D artists in terms of disciplines and job descriptions, it's almost impossible not to speak in general terms.

I do not mean to say that everyone with experience is blind to new things, and that's how I feel you're interpreting my words. But when it comes to software as complicated as 3D applications, and there are a dozen different ways to approach each task, and I would never presume to say I know them all, or even that I know the best one.

Of course people are different. I've met a lot of people in the companies that I've worked for that don't look for new ways of doing things. I've met some that don't even want to hear about new workflows. And people like that benefit from training from someone like Ted because he knows max inside and out and, more importantly, he's an expert at communicating that knowledge to people who need it.

I dont have a huge amount of experience but i agree with the post above in that i personally definately find it hard to break out of old workflow routines and adapt to new methods. In my office of about a dozen artists there would only be two or three who consistently implement new ideas and ways to attack their projects, from new plugins to attempting alternative workflows such as LWF. The rest of us myself included then learn from this and try to progress our own work. This is a generalisation also and I would be surprised if it didnt apply to a lot of other companies.
Cubiclegangster can be overly aggresive sometimes. I blame the additives in Subways at lunch.

I blame having to sit in the same room as you for 40 hours a week.

Weta has a pretty stink website too but everyone knows what they are capable of.
I love all the cheesey replies. I can hear national anthems blaring along with some of them.

Shaun got a little pissed off and that was fun. Then Stefan stepped in to shut things down. I wish I had the extra cash to take Ted's course. In the immortal words of Queensryche 'Speak the word' fellas.
