There's all sort of cascading errors in trying to install/remove/reinstall any .net component or package.
Reading through the error files, it sends me circuitously around to obscure stuff i never knew i had on the pc.
Trying to reinstall Sp2 for Xp x64, i'll see where i get with that, but i'm not very confident, tbh.Lele

.net framework.... hmmmm i remeber beeing problems with installing.
Not sure if i'm correct, but well
I think the correct way would be:
Uninstall all .net stuff
Run a .net cleaner that will get rid of all the stuff left behind.
Reinstall all frameworks.
run the updates (for windows) that'll update pack to latest version.

Dunno if this applies to you, but i remember having troubles with .net things and this worked for meMy Homepage : http://www.pixelstudio.nl

For those with massive issues (i must have deleted some .msi file fromt he windows folders) installing/uninstalling .net and similar, download, and install the following:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...bd/msicuu2.exe
Run it, and wipe clean the .net stuff from the registry.
Then reinstall the .net packages as needed.
Without this, errors would pile up and pretend stuff was not installed (because they couldn't find those msi packages on disk, while reg infos were good).Lele

Nice, it starts up properly now.
So, anyone managed to have the Reveal rendering to work in viewport?
As mentioned, it's only a passing reference in the manual.
I can make the iterative (cached) rendering to work, but only in the rendered frame window.
Clues, anyone?Lele

Hmm, my first time experiences were massive crashes. Some of the "new" features are just old ones with a UI facelift, and some of the new features are totally pointless and useless imo. Or at least for me they are. Not impressed. Not impressed at all. But I was expecting nothing good.
Bye bye autodesk on the MAX front.
Best regards,

That link i posted with the (supposedly working) videos shows just the crop area in a shaded view...

So i guess reading this and other topics on the newest max version it's release isn't good, more a type of "sevicepack" release (and even if it was a services pack it's a bit poor in its new features).
Bummer. i realy thought after max2008 (wich also wasn't that a suprising release) the next version would be great. bah.
Getting the feeling they want to get rid of max, also hearing more people looking at other packages now.
not a smart move from autodesk if you ask me.
Now a bit more on the good stuff hehe, i havent tried it yet but spline mapping looks a nice addition, any1 tested that yet ?
are i'm wondering are there more new thing in 2009 then listed on the autodesk website? My Homepage : http://www.pixelstudio.nl

I don't get the feeling they plan on getting rid of max, but it's use might be becoming more specific rather than all encompassing. From the list of improvements they seem to be pushing for a smoother work flow between architectural products like Revit. Many of the improvements now are for Mental Ray which gets more and more integrated into Max upon each release, it looks like it's their own renderer rather than a separate company. Looks like this version might be worth something to someone who uses mental ray, but apart from that, there does not seem to be any significant addition. Max appears to be becoming the Autodesk Viz program for archviz. I don't know what is going on in the Maya front.

Some consideration:
(*). Interactive Render... INTERACTIVE ???
(*). spline mapping 4*! Usefull
(*). Compose map: a little Photoshop inside Max!!! Very GOOD! ( i hope works in VRay)
(*). VRayProxy ehmm.... MR Proxy ehh...Usefull, obviously
(*). MR Preset shader= fR shader = Very usefull! When in VRay???
(*). IES relatime preview. Beauty features
(*). Navigation tool box. A good tool, not the best in max, but i like the preset animation
(*). I use interactive adjustement Softselection from max 6 with free script (scriptspot)
This is a big SP, not e new release, but some tool are usefull. Only MR user are very happy for this release.
Bye
