I'm thinking to do 3way SLI with the gforce 9600gt (XFX overclocked: GPU Clock: 700 MHz, Shader Clock: 1750 MHz, Memory Clock: 2000 MHz) + mobo evga 780i.

But I didn't find info about how much power(watts) it will need.www.thefakeworld.net is back!

Last I heard, Max won't take advantage of an SLI configuration. Correct me if I'm wrong though.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

i had a x2900 ati card
then got a 8800 and spewed at the performance drop
so went and got a 3870 ati card instead and back to happy levels of speedWerT

so ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4870 X2 or EVGA Geforce 280 FTW ?
I'm long nvidia user and I'm afraid to switch to ATI. I somehow don't trust them I don't know why.Luke Szeflinski

i have a nvidia 8800 softmodded to a quadro 4600 and its really fast in direct 3d.
i cant install maxtreme drivers for some reason but i dont think they are really necessary.
i would like to compare it to one of the newer cards like the 280 but i dont know how to benchmark this in max.
can you still softmod those newer cards?Reflect, repent and reboot.
Order shall return.

But it doesn't so we need one powerful cardI haven't heard a definite answer that 3d studio supports any SLI (or Xfire) implementation. And I've also never seen a definitive answer that answers whether or not a dual chip card (i.e., any "x2") is seen by the application as a sli setup (since it's using two GPU's) or as a single card (well, since it's a single card). Basically, I'm asking if for applications that may not use SLI (i.e., Max not games) if there's any advantage for an "x2" card. If the answer is "no" then you'd be best off dropping down to the standard HD4870 at half the cost for the same performance. Any one know answers to the above? I'd like to know as I'm contemplating an upgrade some time soon as well.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... Not sure about SLI - but I did see a boost between a 8800GTX and the 260 model.

I have an 8800 GTX 768MB @ home and I have a 280 OC BFG 1GB card at work that replaced a Quadro 4500.
For normal day to day work, with scenes in the 1 million poly range, there is very little difference between the 8800 and the 280. The quadro 4500 with MAXtreme is noticeably slower. Not by a lot, but enough to make me notice the speed difference. Once the scenes start getting larger the 280 really starts to pull away. Neither card does well with lots of spline data in Max unfortunately. Anyways, for the price, I am very happy with the 280.
Performance tests done in Max 9 & Max 2009 (view cube disabled).
