  • Strange 'move' problem in max2009

Every now and again when moving geometry in Max, the object being moved seems to move exponentially/logrithmically away from the mouse cursor. Its a bit difficult to explain, but moving the object a small amount by dragging it across the viewport actually moves the object in question massive distances.

Does anyone else get this and is there a solution?

We had hoped that moving to Max2009 64bit would help but we still get the problem. It wouldn't be so bad if the Max undo facility was reliable, but it isn't (and STILL isn't!!!). The only way to resolve is to close max without saving, hope you have a suitable autobackup file and restart.

    Brilliant!
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

its one of those that will probably never be fixed by Autodesk. I've had that problem on and off since version 9

Hi! I have had the same problem several times in Max 4(32), 6(32), 7(32), and 9(64). No solve to the problem, sorry! Always when this happens you're not far from Max crashing to the desktop. Only common thing that I can remember when this happens is that I've been working for many hours without restarting Max. I've just saved the scene into a new file and restarted Max. Never had any corrupted Max files.

I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that it is not just us!

Do you also find that Max undo is awful? ADT/Autocad undo is fantastic - you can go so far back its like going back in time! Why can't max be the same?
        Kind Regards,

you can just set your undo levels in max. Go to Customise > Preferences > General Tab > Sceno undos and set it to max which is 500 it seems.
          Hope that helps.

I have found however that depending on what command I'm busy with, it doesnt matter what the max undo is set to, it sometimes just doesnt want to undo anything. Then I have to restart.
          Kind Regards,

              Max's Undo function stinks...
              I can't stand it.

Why is it so bad? I mean, how can Autodesk just leave it as it is???

Max seems to CACHE the previous operation in ram, rather than on disk.
Hence the undo buffer overflow for big scenes.
Run a "GC()" command every now and then to purge it.

Ive had the exact same problem before. I think I may have got round it by selecting adjust pivot point only and clicking on centre to object. I think I recall this working...only a workaround of course
                        Regards

We've had similar problems and updating our video card drivers fixed erroneous moves and snap problems.

Slightly OT, but has anyone had the problem (I think it only happens on cameras) where the pivot point/gizmo for the camera is centered on between the camera and the target and not just the camera? Of course, just the camera is selected, not both the camera and the target. Really annoying, but a restart clears it right up.
