Photoshop CS4 and EXR background problem

ill bet he uses CS4 and he needs CS2 EXR plugin...therefore reinstalling would not really help....

Anyone knows where the old plugin can be downloaded ont he net? had a quite big search myself and could not find it or the links were deleted.....

Well, you could reinstall the CS2 version in order to get the plugin. But keep in mind it does not work in CS4 Extended, 64-bit.

I am now in the habit of saving anything where I need to keep the background without the alpha channel, then re-saving a version with it. Or to automate, specify a file name via the MFB without the alpha, and via the VFB with the alpha.

Hello I have the same problem in after effect CS4, I'm new with this software so maybe Ii don't understand things very well, I have installed proexr but I lost my background when I import my exr, so the best fix is to import alpha separetely? or is there any other solution?

In AE, right click on the footage listed in the project tab. Then Interpret Footage/Main (or just Ctrl+Alt+G). Under Alpha, select Ignore.
This is basically the option we want to have in photoshop.

It's been a while for this thread but we may finally have an answer from adobe. It looks like in the new CS6 beta, some of the new improvements are "JDI (Just Do It) features"...

What are JDI features? They're "Just Do It" features: small features that don't take a lot of time to implement or test and seem like an obvious improvement.

One of the new features under File Formats:

Give the user choices regarding how they want transparency treated in OpenEXR on file open and save

Should we feel vindicated or just appeased? I haven't actually tried it out yet (I'm downloading the beta now) but it appears to be exactly what we need. Even more aggravating is that the JDI features are described as not taking "a lot of time to implement and seem like an obvious improvement".

EDIT: I just tried it in cs6 - works as expected and throws the full RGB into the background layer and adds an Alpha 1 channel. Was that so hard?

EDIT2: I can case anyone else missed this besides me, it also appears adobe issued an updated OpenEXR reader for CS5 that supports putting the file alpha into photoshops alpha channel rather than layer transparency. You can get it here.
