Not exactly a client comment but I HATE it when I tell someone what I do (mainly archvis stuff) and they almost invariable reply "Oh, you must work on a Mac". Uhh, no.

www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

Client
I once had a client ask me for an interior without any lights. I explained my process and he wanted to save some money. One of the steps I explained was to light the scene so he thought it would be a good idea to have an interior scene without lights (no windows in the scene BTW).
I explained that without light you have darkness, but I don't think he got itBobby Parker

... well i did a 'heh' sound and continued presenting other parts
I got another one from the same client:
... he wanted me to render a part of the animation in sunset atmosphere. I told him that the following interior shot is already rendered and it has clear day atmosphere and the shot before this one is daytime too ... AND we are 4 days to deadline now so there's no room for another comments round.
C: no problem just take the light from another already rendered late sunset sequence and it'll be alright!
me: ok I will do this and send you the preview.
- did this yesterday and have this e-mail from him in my InBox today:
C: great! just make the dawn atmosphere 50% less dawn...

I don't really think making something 20% better, or 50% less of what it is now is that bad. 20% better just means you are getting close, but it is not quite popping yet. 50% less of the dawn just means that he feels the image is to bright. You probably could have taken care of that by simple adjustments in post. 20% better could be as simple as pumping the contrast to give the image more presence.
But yeah. vague comments can be a headache. I think simply questioning the client about what the mean when the say that would probably make thing a lot easier. Interpretation is a large part of our job. Listening to people who are engrained in a proffesinal with special lingo is often like trying to decipher a thick accent.Last edited by crazy homeless guy; 15-09-2009, 08:11 PM.

Ok i have on too:
How about explaining to a client that a 300 dpi image @ 2500x2000 mm costs us a lot of time and may not even be possible (few years ago), i even asked him if he was able to open a document of that size since they have their own printstudio and he replied no!
I had to say the same thing to the same client about 8 or 9 times over on different projects, he just couldnt understand.
And they always ask for enlargements when your allready done with the postprocessing, so we have to explain it is going to cost them extra because of all the postprocessing work we have to do again. Then they say oh i thought we told you we needed it at large size!
It is in our agreement now that if not told otherwise we deliver on A4@300 dpi, they still don't read the agreement but we can get extra money now wihtout any fuzz.A full render queu is a thing of beauty !

On a Friday afternoon:
Client: "We got a important presentation next Tuesday morning that we will need some assistance on. We'll need the renders by Monday to get time to include them all. Unfortunately, we're still working on the SketchUp model - how are you placed to do some preliminary work this weekend to get some renders out for internal review first thing Monday?"
*canceled all my plans for the weekend*
... and the client sent the Sketchup model on MondayHarry G
