  • Sketch render in Vray

    Hi all,
I am actually making some render test (realistic, wooden model...) and I want to know if it is possible to have this kind of render in Vray with VrayToon :

    Source from cgarchitect: http://www.cgarchitect.com/news/Reviews/Review037_1.asp

    Other exemple made with ArchiCad:

    Thx.

Second image is quite do-able with Vray Toon, but I don't think you can have extended lines like the first image.

I've done images like the first one using vray toon, but you need to render out seperate passes and do a lot of photoshop.

Nothing will do it automatically though, you're going to be using PS a lot whatever you render with.

I hope to find a way to have the extended lines in MAX like the first image.

            Salut roya

To obtain this, I put a VrayMtlWrapper with MatteShadows on OverrideMtl of the scene.
Then you adjust the vray toon. The background have to be white.

            Appelles en cas

This one has some nice jitter and shading tools:
                  http://www.psoft.co.jp/en/product/pencil/

I will say though that if you spend enough time playing with the shaders in max and VRayToon, you can get some decent results.

I don't think you will find much for Max that will give nice extension lines. You could take your model into SketchUp or C4D Sketch & Toon and get some nice tools for extension lines...in fact I think your reference image was generated using C4D Sketch & Toon.

I just drew my extension lines on in ps - doesnt take long and you can match the thickness of the vray toon easily.

Same here. It's much faster to do it in PS and you can put lines where you want them, not where software decides to do. It's actually suprising how small number of "extedned" lines is needed to achieve a "fuzzy-furry" effect
