  • 3ds max 2010 design crashes on file open

So I got this strange problem. I have these scenes which work fine under windows xp 32 bit and max 2010 design x32 bit.
Once I try to open them under windows 7 64 bit max 2010 design sp1 x64 it just simply crashes.
Any idea why this happens? If I open those scenes under winxp again they are fine...

For shits and giggles, have you tried opening the file through Max 32bit in Windows 7?

yeah in winxp it opens fine. Its totally weird. It does have a plugin missing (treestorm) could that be the cause?

sorry misread your post. It does not open in max under win7.

Really odd. Does merging crash it too?

i have not tried. I have read on autodesk forum that there is some sort of compression option that max is using when it saves the files and that could be the cause. I will try today and see if that works. I can see compression being an issue between 32 bit and 64 bit...but if I save the files under win7 64 bit, I cant open them on another machine with similar specs.

I've never had any issues with the Max file compression between 32bit and 64bit. Then again I haven't tried opening files between XP and 7 yet. About the only issue I've seen is uncollapsed booleans created in 32bit Max causing issues in 64bit.
