I've been pulling my hair out trying to layer render passes in AE just to get them to look just like the original render (yes, I've seen the Nuke screenshot that someone posted, but I don't understand what's going on there).
Wouldn't it make a lot more sense for render passes to work with alpha channels where the percent of diffuse that shows through is transparent, so that blending modes are irrelevant?
Or maybe there's something I'm not considering here...
