    maybe instead of using decimation master, you should just export the mesh 2 level down from the highest level in zbrush, and use this mesh in max with some normal and bump map. i guess it will always be faster than using displacement maps.

      Yep, this is where I am netting out as well. It works quite well and for me it shaves a huge amount of poly's as well. It depends on the mesh, but right now I'm going down just 1 level, but basically trying to keep the hi-res mesh in the 1-3 million poly range.
