    http://www.infinity.no/max_2011.htm

(it takes about 10 min to load, right now)

    some highlights:
-) plugins wont have to be recompiled
-) toxic compositor integrated (hopefully works with vray?)
-) new node based material editor (node joe?)
    -) viewport painting
-) viewport enhancements (i guess better directx support, hardware shading?)
-) quicksilver: new hardware renderer (I guess this one wont play nice with vray)

That node editor looks pretty much identical to NodeJoe... I suppose that means it's been acquired by Autodesk? But I already have Nodejoe! :P

                  it seems a good release...

My bests are ribbon customization and node based material editor.

It's funny that every new release is a copy/paste from another applications... the composite editor is Combustion and the MatEditor is NodeJoe... they could change fonts at least!!

The Composite is Toxik and will be a separate application. Not work inside 3ds max.

sorry... Toxic not Combustion...but it's the same.... 3dsmax is a container where autodesk puts everything it buys...but again good additions.

looks like they are making significant changes to this release. sucks for those of us that purchased 2010, and good for those who decided to skip it.

I have 2010 with a subscription so I am happy.

I was watching an After Effects video and he was talking about people being upset with the latest release. The instructor explained how the development works. This years release might be small fixes and minor improvements, but the next years release will be major improvements. The cycle continues that way... I am not sure if Auto desk follows the same rules, but lately it seems that is the case.

Autodesk has some real "talented" business men.
They take a good look at what third party developers cook up and buy it for a very low price if its useful.
Mentalray, "Graphite", Node Joe, Cat, the list goes on and on.

I worked on a small part for an unreleased product for max from a small company.
The guy got a call from autodesk and they told him they would like to integrate his product into max2011.

Then they made their offer and it was so low that he first thought there was a mistake.
Unfortunately that was not the case and he refused to sell it to them.

Now i have read the detailed feature/asset list and there is something in there that was his only competitor on the market.

So there are lots of people out there who are willling to sell their stuff to autodesk for almost nothing.
No wonder that they make only half of the new features on their own if they can get all the good stuff for cheap from independent developers.

Don't get me wrong, i like max and will stay on subscription,
but autodesk is sucking up everything on the 3d market and thats never a good thing for us customers.
                              Reflect, repent and reboot.
                              Order shall return.
