max 2011.. as an aside has anyone actually benefitted from this (in my opinion totally unnecessary) split in the software? i just dont get it.. maybe autodesk thought they didnt have enough 3d packages on the market.

design.. but we actually didn't pick it over standard max, it was our reseller who made the choice for us. anyway, doesn't really make any difference, so we just kept it..

My understanding is Design has lighting analysis and standard doesn't. I am not sure of the other differences, if any.

I have found that if you have a mix of max and design, you can't send jobs to one or the other on the farm... so if you have a mix of licenses in the office, you'll need both installed on every node. Joy!

                        Standard max for me.
                        Many Thanks

Standard max. The only actual difference I know of besides lighting analysis is that the standard max comes with the SDK.

I don't see any benefit for the end user in having to choose camps between max/design. I picked regular max because I more closely fit the intended marketing niche for that product.

Regular Max. Found the lighting analysis to be inaccurate.
