We got our render servers to work again by:
        1) Uninstalling Backburner 2012
        2) Reinstall Backburner 2008 from the Max 2011 disk
---Now if you try to send a network render at this point you will get some sort of missing or cannot find configuration file error. I don't remember the exact wording of the error. So then... this was the fix on my Win 7 64-bit machine...
        3) Open the C:>users>(user name)>AppData>Local>Autodesk>3dsMax>2012 - 64bit>enu>Backburner folder, and replace the Backburner.xml file with an older Backburner.xml file. I also replaced the xml file in the '2011 - 64bit' folder as well, because I noticed it had a more recent date than the old 2011 xml file.

*** This worked because we had copied and renamed the '2011 - 64bit' folder before installing the 2012 version, so we had the old xml file. Also, the AppData is hidden by default, so unhide all folders to see it.

I know that's a lot of junk to go through, hope this makes sense.
