re asking for next work by Wednesday: I'd say no it can't be done by then..
then offer what you can do - maybe less plants or smaller rendering
don't be afraid to say no - it's something I've learnt to do after getting bitten after saying yes.
The problem is they will continue to expect you can turn round future jobs to the same deadlines.

In fact the most recent one that burnt me ... I did say 'no' but client then bullied me into saying 'yes'..
you know "...we really need it, we know it will be good..." etc..
then he neglected to clear everything to the company owner (long chain of sub contractors) so it all got rejected - I did get paid at least, but we all ended with egg on our face.

yep...i also learned saying no is better sometimes.
certainly better than stressing out for 20 hrs a day and over weekends....its not worth it.
most of the clients dont like to pay the "express delivery premium" anyway so why bother.
i can pull off really tight deadlines but it has to be well worth the effort.

most of the clients i have down here stiff me on both deadline and paycheck. they figure if they have to pay more they might as well go to america or choose someone here who will charge less but do a shitty job. typically for something like this i get about 1.5k USD http://www.elfpro3d.com/sugar/gazebo.jpg

I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic. How long did that view take you to do?
Cost wise, what if you had to also do a 2nd view from the other side of the pool looking back this way?

I ended up saying yes, and I haven't slept since the weekend. I requested the final site plan, before I started, and it is different then the last final site plan. The building no longer fits, so the building has obviously changed since I started 2 weeks ago. I took me a long time to adlib the site to work with the building I have. I am now adding the thousands of shrubs and hoping my machine doesn't crash at render time.

I just hit render, wish me luck. I did figure something out on this job... keep it simple, unless you have to do otherwise. I was making way to much out of shader on previous jobs. This job, all I did was dropped a bitmap in the diffused and bump, and left everything else as default. I was expecting long render times, but so far it is saying 1 1/2 hrs and the preview looks awesome! I had to drop thousands of high poly plants, large field of grass, and it is flying. whoot!

Cool. Looking forward to seeing the final image.

I think I've learnt over the years that sometimes the client won't notice the intricate details like us cg guys do and that to be too much of a perfectionist etc with shaders creates a lot of stress for yourself when sometimes keeping it simple can save you a whole load of hassle and still give great results. As long as the client is happy, that is what matters.
                  Regards

Good Luck Bobby - I hope everything goes fine for you
Reading this thread made me laugh- hearing the funny needs of architects are same all over the world!
My clients also think that everything is done by computers, as if there is a secret button, I click and all is done. When they ask for a incredible revision and if I tell them that it would take much time, they say "But isn't the computer making this?"

I have said this before. sometimes we need to get back to the basics in order to finish what we started...
