  • laggy max 2012 UI ... anyone else noticed it ?

Does anyone else have this problem that switching between some UI options gets slow?
Here's I recorded how it behaves (fresh opened max, same thing on nitrous as on dx):

    http://vimeo.com/36007964

Please notice the right menu how it's blinking every time I switch between vertices, edge or polys (it's getting annoying as hell)
I was thinking about reinstalling max but right now don't have time to reinstall plugins and personal scripts. So maybe just using repair option form autodesk installation might help? but whta about service packs, should I uninstall them before doing that?
I would appreciate any advices you guys might have, or maybe this is how it is after some time with max 2012 and most of you noticed same problem.

It seems to a known issue... For me just showing a material UI in the Material editor may take 10 seconds. Some people say that having the Aero interface enabled makes things faster again.

I have this too. One thing I'm noticing in particular is the Vray Frame Buffer is *super* slow after a render. Bogs down the whole interface for while. Doesn't seem to happen with the Max FB. Since I'm also occasionally getting the flickering in and out VFB i wondered if this was also related?

Well, the VFB slowdown is related to the Nitrous viewport in particular and goes away with the DirectX driver. Is the other UI slowdown occurring with the DirectX viewport driver?

I can try the DX drivers tomorrow when my renders are done, but I did find the thread that mentioned the progressive refinement option. That definitely helped the lagging with the VFB and also dramatically reduced the times it would start to flicker in and out. Still happened once or twice, but vastly better anyway.

Brett, can you point me to this thread about this progressive refinement option?

yes please, tip away, any little bit of info regarding ui speed is greatly appreciated. hardware is good, still it feels like working on a jurassic computer.
oooohhmf make box you say? wait a sec. i'll have to think about that.

make it snappy, rewrite everything, make it dosbox, i don't care, grrmlmbfraahgahr

jesus, sorry, what a waste, felt good though

I can't image how much time could be saved, how faster we could work if this would be solved...

it's strange but I change to AERO and now it seems a bit more responsive....(but man I hate aero look...)

Im not enjoying it either...waiting 10 seconds or so for any kind of response after a render is ridiculous. Are Autodesk even aware of this issue ?

I did find switching to Direct 3D is better for the VFB and for some UI responsiveness. However, I also found Nitrous to be better overall viewport perfomance with complex/high poly scenes. It's a crappy tradeoff atm.

Yes, they are. I don't have much hopes for having it fixed though, so I'm trying to figure out work-arounds.
