I couldn't get on the roof, but it was fun trying

yes. I have that. I will try it and hope the black corners, of the texture, will work instead of clipped geometry, which it can't do.

I didn't realize you can use a mesh. I'm trying, but it's scattering my mesh into some strange cloud shape.

why dont you just use the free roof script from digital X models, but then just replace the displacement map with your own custom made shingle map?
                Kind Regards,

I started with that, which works great, but then I have to build a large tillable texture map.

                    RTFM !
Read the batzal manual what are the rules of creating custom shingle meshes. It need to be 1x1 size and if it's smaller you will create gaps like i did. Remember to change object to mesh (poly won't work)

here's my file, just edit the small custom shin I made with what you need. shin.zip

I'll use this cool script if I had to do this kind of stuff.

Okay. I read the manual, but it's not working for me. How are you picking your custom mesh? I see yours, and it is what I'm looking for, but I can't reproduce it.

I still dont understand why you just don't use the free roof script with custom displacement. You make just ONE tile with 2 overlapping from the sides, thats it
                          Kind Regards,

the script comes standard with 2 tile types and you can give random colour variation. Just pump your own tile type in to get what you want.
