I had a client a couple of years ago who said he wanted 10-15 3d animations done. I thought it was the biggest job ever, then I realized he was talking about normal still images.... he kept calling them animations through the whole project. In the end he only ordered 6 images, and he payed porly for them. Bastard

Feels like that sometimes doesn't it ?

Here in Canada it is generally just called "CG". As in "we need some CG done for this job/shot/project". I prefer that term because it's not specific to 3D. A lot of my Photoshop work is also "CG" in the broad sense.

I always thought we are called 3d Artists.
Or "Digital Artist" if you are also doing motion graphics with a 2d package.

If you are a one man show and have to do everything from start to finish,
i think you are also a 3D Generalist?
        Reflect, repent and reboot.
        Order shall return.

I often hear "we need renders" or 3D from them.

I call myself 3D artist but when there is someone too far from the subject who doesn't know 3D and can't understand what I do, I say "I am a like a painter, I draw pictures but with the computer"
Then it makes sense to them.

3d generalist doesn't sound important enough to me. I like to consider us as Uber Cool 3d Gods !

yes 3D generalist sounds so uhmm "general". Like a GP, he's good for small things if you have the flu or hurt your toe, but if you need a heart or brain surgeon, better call some1 else. BUT, that doesnt mean the GP can't guide you and in all likelyhood, he has YEARS of experience on a variety of levels.

I always say Architectural Illustrator. Leaves little open to interpretation - Rendering imply's a process to me, we press render but the computer is the "renderer". The software does the rendering, I illustrate ideas. Its all splitting hairs though, I did get a call a few weeks ago if i could take some dead cows and process them down. I may look into that as a side line.
