  • Major problems with current project. Scene is over 100MB with nothing in it!

I am building a scene in Max 2012, but recently, performance of opening and closing the scene has been degrading. I started investigating.

One of the scenes that I was XREFing in to the main scene contained some furniture models. Opening this scene used 5.5GB RAM. I started deleting objects, saving, restarting Max, but it still used 5.5GB RAM just to open. I deleted everything in the scene, unchecked compress on save and saved again. The file size is over 100MB and it still takes 5.5GB RAM just to open.

    Any ideas?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

Luke - do you have a Paypal account or anything? I want to give you some money! You've solved it for me!!!!!! Or would a nice model of something be OK? I've been pulling my hair out for about 24 hours now trying to solve this.

WTF are NOTE tracks anyway??? Why isn't there an auto fix from Autodesk for this????
      Kind Regards,

Yes - I found that thread. I guess we have come accross this as we have been merging in some models that were purchased on Turbosquid. They have 'infected' all the files that were associated with the project. Our main scene file was using more than 15GB RAM just to open (and taking ages). The file size was upwards of 900MB. After applying this script, the file dropped to 17MB and opened in a few seconds using only about 1GB RAM.We can now exit MAX normally rather than forcing the application to close through the task manager.

That script is 4 lines. And makes so much of a difference.
