  • 266 objects...assigning 266 material id's ?

Does anyone know how I can do this ? I've tried various scripts but not had any luck.

If you only have one mesh per object, and object transforms are irrelevant to you, I'd:
    1. Collapse all objects to one
    2. Assign a "material by element modifer", set to random and 266 id's
    3. Optionally Explode to individual objects again.
    4. Optionally use the Transform palette to recenter pivots to I.e center, and min-z.

Probably easier if you can script

Material by element doesn't create unique id for each element. You can have multiple id's per mesh (assuming all collapsed).

I was hoping to work out a script that simply sets 266 material id's for the 266 elements or objects I have selected, but I'm not a good scripter.
