  • Library of wind animated tree proxies?

No, I haven't got one, but I'd like one. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? We are creating an animation and we need some animated trees. We are using Treestorm from Onyx. Pretty good but sooooo laborious and slow.

That would be what I would use also. GrowFX is apparently much better and quicker for that sort of thing, but a hell of a learning curve to make trees as it doesnt come with as many "presets" as Onyx.

If you have UNLIMITED budget you could go for SpeedTree, but I dont know how is the learning curve on that.
If you have unlimited time, you could mess arond with Vue Xtreme

    EDIT:
Hmmm I see Speedtree now has a smaller version of their software for smaller studios at US$ 865

Yes, I did have a brief try with a demo of GrowFX a while ago. It does have some great features and I did start getting logical results, but we don't really have the time to invest in learning something else. Ideally, I need an 'off-the-peg' solution.

I'd say the files'd be massive for such a collection. I cached a few trees for game of thrones and anything that was good enough to hold up had a huge number of polys - ended up in vrmesh files between 12 and 30 gigs each

Another problem is that if you want to offset the animation lets say you have 5 proxy trees each has 100 frame cycle, you want to offset it 10 times, so you get 50 proxy variations on a given frame, ram goes through the roof

Does the vray proxy not have ram friendly animation offsets built in?
