IMHO, they will put it in Ent. Creation Suite, not a Max.

There's a max london user group early february with frank delise (max product manager) and there's an NDA session so they'll likely show off max 2014 - Gnu might want to get along.

Project Geppetto (crowd simul.) technology preview has ended recently.
IMO, it will be included in max 2014 if they didn't extend beta period.

I have insider sources, and i've heard we're getting project geppetto, niaid, a new set of nurbs tools on par with rhino, a full and frank apology for everything that has preceeded it and a starbucks card with $50 of credit loaded on.

edit: and a hardback ring bound copy of the help files, and those laminated keyboard shortcut things they used to do.

can you imagine.. they can keep the ringbound help files, but everything else on your list would be my dream for max.

they dont even have to code very much.. just buy npower.

Autodesk better fix the critical bugs in Geppetto before they release it properly!

I wonder what the silly project name is for 2014?

We aren't bothering with the renewal. Its been difficult enough to get on with Max2012 (we wasted an awful lot of time (and hair) with an upgrade from Max2009 to Max2013). Even if we did stay on the subscription and received 2014, it is unlikely we would install it because of past issues we have had.

Its a very frustrating situation. I have very few qualms in subscribing to something, but we use only a fraction of the capabilities of Max so an upgrade is wasted on us. Most of the reasons we did upgrade was to stay compatible with our clients.
                      Kind Regards,
                      Richard Birket

Am i the only one who likes max2013?
I like the native CAD importer, the particle flow stuff, and faster viewports with my old gaming card.
And it almost never crashes, even in complex scenes with characters, large environments and scattered trees.

I just try to use no third party plugins except vray.
                        Reflect, repent and reboot.
                        Order shall return.

Not at all, i'm using 12 on a daily basis with 13 installed and I think they're the best versions of max we've had for a very long time.

I just switched over to 2013, but so far I'm happy too. Seems to be a a lot more stable.

i dunno.. when max 2012 came out it was really bad for me.. lots of odd behaviour.. after a dozen product updates its much better, and my current weapon of choice.. but nitrous still has some quirks. fast for basic viewport stuff then suddenly dog slow in specific cases. plus if you try to manipulate a scene thats just too heavy it has a habit of going into some kind of interface refreshing loop that i have to crash max out of. this only occurs with nitrous. i find myself switching back to direct3d, or even opengl in some cases...

ive tried 2013, and while i didnt use it enough to comment in an educated way on its relative strengths versus 2012, i did find the viewports slower on my geforce than 2012, and it doesnt have a single feature ive been excited about or needed so far, and we are almost a year in. massfx im sure is ok, but im still stinging from their removal of reactor and its replacement with something that still doesnt stack up, after 2 yearly release cycles. - and why is it (and pflow box 2 addon) not gpu accelerated? the originals/ products they were based on ( physx) were gpu-accelerated ages ago.

basically im sure 2013 is -allright- by now, but it just left me stone cold.

I have the same feelings, GNU. I'm using 2012 on a daily basis and have 2013 sitting there but I can find no real reason to use it, and many reasons not to (my 2012 pipeline is extremely solid and reliable - the idea of moving everything over to 2013 and having all those old problems with Backburner etc. pop up again is horrific...).

I can see myself not bothering with 2013 at all and just moving on to 2014 but even then I don't upgrade anyway until at least a couple of PU have been released and any major bugs have been squashed. Every single fresh release of MAX is a nightmare as we all know. It takes a little time to get fully stable and reliable.

As for what I personally want from 2014? Same as I wanted from 13, 12 and every release before - speed and stability. That's all. I must say that 12 has been fantastic for me overall. Stable, fast and reliable mostly. For me it's the windows 7 of 3ds max releases. 2013 is the windows 8 - a bit nicer, a bit shinier, but ultimately not exciting at all. So I'll skip a generation.
