    i think the best way to have a good control is to have a double vraydomelight system....one for the light, one for the reflections, works beautifully
    I generally model basic proxy geometry and texture it with HDRI as vray light for reflections, Dome is made for diffuse and specular.

      this is why i drove 12,000 km out in the desert to avoid all that.
