I was thinking simmilar thing about blender. Once Vray gets a bit better on it, move to blender and customize build it up urself to where you want it to be.

well..it's not so easy in particular about the architecture modelling and compaibility with AutoCAD products.
Anyway things are changing and it's always the same story...more user use it, more external tools will be and some useful addons were posted that helps.
For example just some weeks ago starts a collaboration from blender foundation and Microvellium that develop a non destructive parametric modelling for blender
http://www.microvellum.com/products/...luid-designer/

Don't look at the modelling tools... but the main important thing is that will introduce a modelling technique that is unknown to daily blender...
Anyway to feel more comfortable the switch, it's good that Vray for Max has standalone version that working with Vray4Blender... it's a great opportunity for Max users

The vray for Blender has been working, and working well for quite some time. Now that the developer is employed by Chaosgroup - as you can see in the forums, the development is very active. I can't say enough good things about Vray for Blender
Learning and getting comfortable with Blender tho... it's certainly an undertaking. It took me about a year on and off before I got comfortable with it.

resulting in incorrect splines. Sketchup on the other hand has an option to move the dwg to the center of a scene before import.
So in some cases we´re forced to import with sketchup first to get a clean dwg into max. So just a little story regarding
Autodesk products and compatibility

well.... but with Blender it's more difficult...
anyway there is a good addon that should simplify the transfer from AutoCAD and Blender
http://www.blenderartists.org/forum/...SP-to-Download
I didn't try it because at work I have AutoCAD LT and it doesn't support LISP scripting

samuel, the interface is really a pain for us we move from 3dsmax.
I've instantly changed the selection with left mouse button (probably in the last official build this is the standard...before not).
There is a good addon that introduce some basic tools (alignment, pivot point, mirroring and other) in a 3dsmax style.

yeah, that was my first experience as well. How could they have done things so drastically different that I couldn't figure out really anything with just poking around? I plan on just biting the bullet and trying out a few basic tutorials to learn all that. It's just painful because they are always incredibly slow. It's like there is 30 minutes of garbage, and 2 minutes of information. They are so painful sometimes. Even those that have great tutorials, like videocopilot, are sometimes painfully slow when you know much of the information there. Newer youtube videos can be sped up, if you didn't know. And there are some tools that allow chapters, which would be really nice. I hate finding an advanced tutorial and some guy show you what buttons to click to rotate the scene 5 times.
