  • What are your most-used Scripts?

    Hi folks,

Some interesting scripts have been posted around here lately and I though it might be useful to start a thread so people can mention their most-used and/or favourite scripts for max. They may or may not be V-Ray related.

Only 2 requests - please include a direct link and a short description of what the script does:

    I'll start with a couple:

RenderMask: - very quick and simple masks for objects/materials/selections
    StonePlacementTools: - make walls
    RockGenerator: make rocks and stones

    Over to you!

Oops, this is a good one, too...
AMC - quickly get useable material conversions to V-Ray, and back and forth, too. Very handy for messy Revit imports.

Batch Import/Exporter - very nice for importing or exporting lots of scenes at once
Collapse - For collapsing hundreds or thousands of edit mesh/poly objects with scene hold and progress bar - very very good

wireColorTools - assigning color to CAD lines based on layer, before they're all put into a single later
                QuadChamfer
                jconnell_sample_settings

If you guys are in to scripts for making things faster remember that Ctrl+Shift+Esc is faster than Ctrl+Alt+Delete. It brings you Straight to Processes.
Other than writing a script to kill it, that's the fastest way I know to kill max.

http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/sc...l-pivot-placer - Select object pivot point from a 3x3 grid (possibly the least exciting suggestion but definitely the one I use the most)

Oh, nearly forgot QuadCap too (from the same person who wrote QuadChamfer): http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/quad-cap - Converts any even sided polygon into quads

a lot of the same, but I use PSD Manager, too

psd-manager™ 3 is the most advanced PSD file exporter for 3ds Max and 3ds Max Design available on the market. Now you can readjust nearly everything in a rendering with Adobe® Photoshop® or any another application that supports PSD files. psd-manager is the tool to help you save time and money by integrating the tools you best know and like.

A couple I couldnt live without now :
http://populate3d.com/products/terrain/?ref=terrain - indispensable for imported contour lines and terrain modeling. Light years ahead of Max's awful terrain compound object.
http://www.itoosoft.com/freeplugins/glue.php - spline projection tool. I use it for curbs, sidewalks, pavement markings etc.

Its scary to see how many script an artist has to use to get job done on 3ds max. At least 50% of them should be in max already :/
