I just used it a few time to make some shaders and follow some tutorial from my couch. However, I stopped because like on the second time I got up from my couch and it slide to the side a busted the Vray dongle!...and thats pretty much why I never used it for Max again.

We need a compact dongle like the newer Logitech ones.

I have the i5 with 8GB and find it very useful for both Max and Cad. Had the SP2 before this one and it is a dramatic improvement in screen size and general feel. The viewport performance is better than I expected and since it is so light I bring it everywhere but I've admittedly not really been using it for full quality rendering. Hard to beat with Netflix though.

It is shocking.

The current understanding is that there is a chassis temp sensor that is causing the throttling as opposed to the cpu temp sensor. Evidently Microsoft does not want to burn their customers.

I wouldn't pay almost $2000 for the top of the line Surface Pro.... If the intention is replacing your laptop with a tablet the price tag should be much lower than that. I would pay 1000 more for something reliable that really work well for what I want to do....I want portability but I am not going to do heavy work seating in a bench at the park listening birds and looking around for inspiration like one of their commercials.

I think you might be missing the point. You can plug in your large monitors, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse; working like you mention. However, you can unplug and spend 1/2 the day at the beach on your device or detach the keyboard and watch Netflix in bed.

No Bobby, you asked for this tablet for working...it doesn't matter what you can connect to it if you cannot work fluently because is not powerful enough.... Watching Netflix and other things are a plus if you want to work primary with it.

Has anyone tried Mudbox on it? I know that you can't do too crazy sculpts with it, but for me personally, it would be sweet to sculpt smaller assets, like rocks etc at around 0,5 - 1 million polygons. And if the pen works like advertised, then it could really be a dream come true. But dreams seldom magically come true =) So, anyone tried it?

Wen I had the SP1 it handled Photoshop, Illustrator and Zbrush well enough...the pen support was decent.
I did run Max, but it's probably good for very light modeling and making some shaders. I would never use it to render a scene.

Well, I paid $1,600 for mine and I with the keyboard and a mouse I feel I can do some serious work on it. But again, I haven't used it for serious rendering but I doubt any portable solution would be sufficient for that.
