    or they could be for Apples trash can looking workstations..I don't think those are Dual Xeon's anymore.

      They will, they are perfectly usable for other applications. Also you can, f.e. run two instances of 3ds Max, each on half the cores.

        As maya exports all would vray be able to somehow isntance second standalone and share assets etc etc and still use all cores? :- )

          You can always run a V-Ray DR spawner on the same machine and use it for local DR; there's nothing extra that we need to do about it.
