Job cost

I have a projects that I'm wanting to do. It might be a tough question to ask, but what would you charge for a photo-real of this house? Four views, all sides, and the Revit model is provided. Just a rough number. The number I gave them made their mouth drop, but the hours I put into things are ridiculous. It's a cool house, so I want it, so I'm willing to be flexible, but not if I'm on target as it is.

Well this a interesting question, i'm also quite keen to know what the rates would be for this kind of job.

There is benefits to the Revit model, but they can get pretty frustrating to work with most of the time.

I have done work for them before and the say that they have ten of these to do. They didn't send me anything but the one drawing. It's on a mountain, so that might add complexity; I didn't get a site plan. They send most of their stuff offshore, but whomever they use, they don't do very good work, but it's dirt cheap, which is what they told me.

Also, "Very rustic lots of stone and reclaimed timbers", which adds complexity.

I didn't send him an estimate, but I did give him a rough number, saying I can send a formal quote if I'm in the ballpark. I already thought that I was giving him a great number, knowing the hours I'll have to invest, but I guess he is used to cheap and not good.

Most of the times, a provided model is a problem more than an advice; always it turns to be a complete mess and it has to be totally fixed

Totally agree : very often, a provided model doesn't save any time because it requires a lot of cleaning, organizing, adding and remodeling parts etc. The only benefit I see is that it allows me to understand the project much more quickly than having to scrub through a pile of plans sections and elevations.

However, they did work through all the issues so it does make for a good reference. i see some value, but not a great one.

tell them you were already giving them a rediced rate because of what they're used to and you're pretty sure this arrangement isnt going to work. If they ask your usual rate anyway say $5k an image.

we had a discussion and he agrees that he sees value in my fee and will bring it to the owner. I said that I'm willing to find something that works for everyone. From my experience, people don't like the low, get what you get, price. People will pay for the chance to participate in the process; to know that they will not be disappointed with the final. I have been told that they send drawings and the next contact is the final, which a lot of the time isn't correct, but they are stuck with it.

I'll share what I quoted, but I wanted to get some non -biased opinions. I have a feeling that it's all over the board, which is s problem for us. PM me if you don't want to post here.

they used the old trick "i have a lot more work coming if....." so i wouldn't quote assuming that.
I would quote a high number for the 1st view and additional views (same type:exteriors) with discounts....It could be a nightmare for only one view and under paid.

I hear that on every other job, so I make sure that I do not take it into consideration .
